Compare the breaking strength efficiency of fishing lines across different brands and manufacturers of fishing lines.
The fishing line strength chart is a comparison of over 170 fishing lines offered by nearly 30 fishing line brands and manufacturers for three major types of fishing lines. The data was gathered by Sport Fishing Magazine over a number of years as a series of articles on measuring the true strength of fishing lines. It is the most comprehensive dataset on fishing line strength we’ve come across, and serves as the basis for our work here on real-world fishing strength.
Fishing line testing was performemd using a state-of-the art tensile line-testing machine, using methodologies inline with the standards applied by the International Game Fish Association (IGFA). All of the lines tested were manufacturer rated 20 pound test or 30 pound test lines.
The efficiency numbers below are based on the average breaking point for each line across all tensile tests, divided by the line test that each line is rated at, subsequently averaged across all lines for each brand or manufacturer.
Here are some illustrative examples:
Here are the fishing line strength efficiency numbers for all tested brands and manufacturers, ranked by the overall efficiency across all line types. Since a number of the tested brands only offer products for specific line types, we only include brands with offerings across all three line types in the rankings for overall efficiency. You can also check out the numbers for specific line types and see data for the strongest monofilament fishing lines, strongest fluorocarbon fishing lines, or strongest braid fishing lines.
